Dylan Hunt, Capitaine du Croiseur Andromeda Ascendant tente de repousser une attaque des Nieztscheens, ennemis de la rйpublique. Trahi par son second et meilleur ami Gaheris Rahde, il est obligй d'abandonner la bataille et d'йvacuer son йquipage : l'Andromeda est absorbй dans un gigantesque trou noir.Nous sommes 300 ans plus tard, le chaos rиgne dans l'univers et la rйpublique n'est plus qu'un vague souvenir. Sauf pour Dylan Hunt, qui n'est pas mort et qui va tenter avec son йquipage а bord de l'Andromeda Ascendant de rйtablir la rйpublique et de vaincre ses ennemis en ralliant un maximum de mondes possibles.
